24-year-old Nicole Catherine Leman of Alaska died from severe head injuries - when she fell while tramping in Mount Aspiring National Park, two-and-a-half years ago.
Coroner Tutton found Nicole Leman and her friend had been smart in their cautious approach and research of the trip - and were experienced trampers.
But he found they continued with their plans, despite being advised by DOC it wasn't appropriate to take the Rabbit Pass route.
Coroner Tutton advises all trampers to plan and research any trip well... and know their limits.
