Eighteen years after the death of a young father in a horror motorway incident , an inquest is getting under way into the accident
6 August 2018
John "Eddie" Tavinor was decapitated when part of a truck's driveshaft smashed through the windscreen of his ute - in November 2000.
In an inquest two years later, experts agreed the drive-shaft had wear and tear that should have been detected during maintenance 11 days before the accident.
Today's new inquest comes after a request from engineers - Peter Morgan and Timothy Smithson - who conTEST the original finding.
Mitsubishi Motors says, since Mr Tavinor's death, it's instituted a specialised training programme on servicing and maintaining driveshafts.
All new trucks now have a hoop around the drive shaft.
