Buses are coming under scrutiny
10 August 2018
The Ministry for Transport and NZTA are being tasked with investigating bus
safety, and Saint John is keen to have a say.
Phil Twyford has requested the investigation, after three bus crashes in the
last two weeks.
An 11-year-old girl was killed in a bus crash at Mount Ruapehu last month.
On Wednesday, a 69-year-old bus driver died after crashing into a ditch in
Taranaki, and 10 passengers suffered minor injuries.
Director of Clinical Operations Norma Lane says ambulance staff have expert
knowledge of bus crashes.
She says Saint John can provide information on types of injuries that can be
avoided with the use of seatbelts.
