A small Southland town's battle to save its maternity centre has been lost

The Southern DHB proposed an end to birthing and inpatient post-natal services at Lumsden Maternity Centre in March.
Despite fierce opposition, it has not changed the decision.
The centre is owned by the Northern Southland Health Company, and directors say they aren't happy.
They say decreasing access to primary health care services flies in the face of initiatives to support rural communities.
