The mother of a killed Christchurch schoolboy now 'accepts' her husband killed him
10 August 2018
Five-year-old autistic boy Leon Jayet Cole died in hospital in May 2015 - with a serious head injury.
A post-mortem examination revealed 44 injuries.
His step-father, James Roberts was due to stand trial in October 2016 for his murder - but was found dead four months earlier.
Leon's mother, 40-year-old Emma Roberts, originally stood by her husband.
But she told the coroner today - after James Roberts was charged with murder and she had an independent pathologist explain the full autopsy report - she changed her mind.
She accepts James killed Leon, but it took time to come to that conclusion, as she loved and trusted him.
The hearing has been adjourned.
