    Police have caught a suspected arsonist in south Auckland

    Police have caught a suspected arsonist in south Auckland, after he escaped from court earlier in the week


    The Armed Offenders Squad was called out to Manurewa this afternoon, to reports of a man with a pistol.

    However they found a person trapped under a house who identified himself as Darcy Hayes.

    Police had been searching for the man since he escaped from the Auckland District Court on Tuesday.

    He was due to appear on a charge of attempted arson, after a fire started at the High Court in Auckland when a window was smashed and an object thrown inside.
