Dua Lipa has been given the key to Pristina, the capital of Kosovo

The 22-year-old musician was born in London, but has close ties with Pristina as her parents lived in the city before moving to England, and the family moved back to Kosovo for a couple of years when Dua was a teenager

Over the weekend, the ‘New Rules’ hitmaker returned to Pristina to host her very own festival, and in honour of her efforts she has been given the very first honorary key to the city.

Posting a professional picture of herself receiving the key from the Mayor of Pristina, Dua wrote on Instagram: “Such an honour to be given the first key to the city of Prishtina, Kosova from the Mayor of Prishtina, Shpend Ahmeti. Thank you for your endless support. (sic)”

Dua also repeated the message in Albanian.

The ‘IDGAF’ singer kicked off SunnyHill Festival - which she set up with the help of her father Dukagjin Lipa - on Friday (10.08.18), and across the three day event the likes of SG Lewis, Grace Carter and Bondax are also set to perform.

The festival was launched in order to give back to the community of Pristina, and 25 per cent of the profits made from ticket sales will go towards The SunnyHill Foundation - which Dua is a patron of - a centre which aims to reduce poverty and work with youths to encourage them to take up their dream careers.

Speaking about the festival on social media, Dua said: "So proud of my dad @dukagjinlipa who had an idea and a dream and is doing exactly what he said he would.

"I'd like to think I got some of my persistence and hunger from both my parents who have showed me that hard work will always shine through.

"He had an idea to create a festival in Prishtina, Kosova with lots of international and home acts to really help put Kosova on the map culturally.

"We have been so lucky to have all our friends join us for one of the most fun and musically diverse line-ups in the region.

"I'm so excited to head down a few days prior to the festival to do some work with the charity and visit my hometown! (sic)”
