The Scot has been beaten 6-1, 1-6 6-4 by 16th seed Lucas Pouille in the first round of the ATP Masters 1000 tournament.
Murray made the semi finals in Washington two weeks ago before pulling out after his quarter final finished at 3 in the morning.
He then withdrew from last week's Toronto Masters.
Murray had hip surgery in January and is unsure if he's ready to return to Grand Slam tennis at the US Open later this month.
