A timely reminder for motorists to slow down around schools and play centres..

A timely reminder for motorists to slow down around schools and play centres..

This follows a child being hit by a car in the Wellington suburb of Paparangi before 10 this morning.

    The six-year-old has serious injuries.

Police say according to initial reports, as the child's caregiver was putting their baby in a vehicle, the six-year-old darted out between two vehicles, in front of an oncoming car.

They say it's important for motorists to remember children are vulnerable around roadways ... as they are still learning to identify risks.

The Serious Crash Unit is continuing to investigate the scene.
