It's been a long time coming for judges to take an in depth look at youth offenders with disabilities.
This from the Dyslexia Foundation, after the top District Court and Youth Court judges announced they're considering a different approach to the matter.
Chief Judge Jan-Marie Doogue has indicated any changes would be a court process issue, and not need changes to legislation.
Dyslexia Foundation trustee chair Guy Pope-Mayell says it's great the initiative is coming from the court itself.
He says it shows a real need to fix the problem, and that the courts can become advocates if legalisation change is needed in the future.
The Chief Judge's Advisory Board will discuss how to proceed in a meeting next month. 08-16-18 1714
