37-year-old Rawden Yates is standing trial in the High Court at Whangarei, charged with the murder of fellow Tribesmen gang member, Kimble Moore.
Yates is accused of deliberately shooting 48-year-old Moore three times in March 2016, before disposing of his body.
But he denies murdering Moore, and says the fatal shots were fire in a scuffle for a weapon.
Moore's body was found buried in a shallow grave in Fairburn, six months after he was reported missing.
