High winds have played a role in Eliza McCartney suffering a heel injury at the latest Diamond League event in Birmingham

High winds have played a role in Eliza McCartney suffering a heel injury at the latest Diamond League event in Birmingham

The kiwi polevaulter got hit by a gust just before her takeoff in her second
attempt of the first round and her feet got tangled up on the bar.

McCartney ended up coming back down on the track by the box and jammed her
    heel on impact.

She retired from the competition and coach Jeremy McColl it's a real shame.

McCartney has gone to hospital for an MRI and X-Ray, the results of which
have left the door open to competing in the Diamond League final in 12 days
    time.

She also has a competition scheduled in Germany before hand, next weekend.
