A total of 72-thousand-730 dollars was seized during the search of Brett Edwards' home in 2013.
The authorities claim it's the proceeds of suspected large-scale fraud of the quota system.
But Edwards says it's from betting on a racehorse and sales of firewood and golf balls.
Charges laid against him were dismissed after evidence was deemed inadmissible and two judges caned MPI for its conduct.
A separate tug of war ensued over the cash.
Police have now confirmed the Crown has claimed 35-thousand dollars.
That's the amount MPI has spent on lawyers handling the case.
