A terrified dairy owner may never be able to work in the shop again after knife-wielding, masked robbers jumped the counter and demanded she hand them her two-month-old baby girl
22 August 2018
The woman and another family member managed to lock themselves in a backroom with the baby, as the robbers trashed the Rainbow Dairy in Whangarei's Rust Avenue.
The robbers ripped out the cash register, emptied the shelves of cigarettes and damaged the premises before running away.
Within an hour of the robbery, at 1.30 yesterday, police had apprehended two teens, aged 15 and 16.
The dairy owner, who does not want to be named, says it will take his wife a long time to recover from the ordeal.
Detective Sergeant John Clayton says the teenagers will be charged with aggravated robbery and be dealt with through the Youth Court.
