A huge shock for the broadcasting world this morning... with news Greg Boyed has died at the age of 48
22 August 2018
He was in Switzerland with his wife and youngest child.
Over his decades-long career, Boyed was newsreader at TVNZ, and a presenter
at Close Up, One News, Fair Go, Q and A, Tonight, and Seven Sharp.
He also regularly worked here, at NewstalkZB.
Broadcaster turned New Zealand First MP, Jenny Marcroft worked with Greg
Boyed at IRN News in the mid-90s.
She says he was talented, kind - and a great person to work with.
Marcroft says he was always a ray of hope and a bright shining light, in a
newsroom that often had to deal with death and destruction.
Newstalk ZB host, Andrew Dickens also worked with Boyed at IRN News.
Dickens says the young Boyed was tall and skinny - had a great voice, and
everyone knew he would be successful.
In a statement, Boyed's family say he had been battling depression.
