A push for insurance law to be changed so consumers are protected - and don't fall through the cracks

An engineering company owner who hurt his hand at work, had his claim turned
down because he failed to disclose past mental health issues, alcohol use and
back pain.
The man complained to the Insurance and Financial Services Ombudsman Scheme -
but his claim wasn't upheld.
That's because two underwriters said they would've covered him on different
terms.
Insurance Ombudsman Karen Stevens says we need a test that reflects what a
reasonable person would know they have to disclose to their insurer.
She says it's not people actively trying to mislead insurers, but people who
make honest mistakes.
