New Zealand households pay 79 percent more for power now, than in 1990

The discussion document for the first phase of the Electricity Pricing Review has been released, outlining what's driving rises in power bills.
The report says the electricity industry is not making excessive profit, based on available evidence - but it still has five big generator-retailers that dominate 90 percent of the retail market.
The review says if pricing structures stay the same, lower-income households will bear some of the costs that better-off households will avoid - by installing solar panels.
