John Legend hopes his work makes "people's lives a little better"

The 39-year-old singer - who has children Luna, three, and two-year-old Miles with wife Chrissy Teigen - is very happy with his life and wants his "art" to bring joy to others too

He said: "I love being a father, [and] I love being a husband.

"I love just being a musician and getting to do what I love to do every day, which is write and perform songs and hopefully make people's lives a little better by the music and art that we create."

At the weekend, the 'All of Me' hitmaker became one of the elite group of artists to achieve the EGOT - winning an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony award - when he picked up a Creative Arts Emmy for his work as producer on 'Jesus Christ Superstar Live in Concert' but he's crediting his achievement to his friend and collaborator Common, who he worked with on 'Glory', their Academy Award-winning song from 2014 drama 'Selma'.

He told 'Entertainment Tonight': "I wouldn't have an EGOT without Common. [It wouldn't have been possible] without 'Selma' and that song."

Meanwhile Common - who, as well as his Oscar, also has an Emmy and three Grammies - has praised his "inspiring" friend for his achievement.

He gushed: "It's really surreal. I mean, it's inspiring. I believe he's the first black male to get that EGOT status and that's just amazing.

"To even know somebody that has an EGOT is incredible... I'm just grateful."

Meanwhile, the 'Love Me Now' singer recently admitted Chrissy "inspires" him to be a better father.

Speaking about his relationship with the 'Lip Sync Battle' star, he said: "We inspire each other. She inspires my songs, she inspires me to want to be a better husband and a better father. We support each other fully in everything that we do. I root for her in her career and everything she's doing.

"And I expect that she'll be up here winning Emmys herself for all the awesome work that she does. She's such a dynamic, vibrant personality, and I've fallen in love with her a long time before the rest of America did. But now America's fallen in love with her too, and she inspires me every day."
