The speed limit's being lowered on Wellington's most dangerous stretch of road

The speed limit's being lowered on Wellington's most dangerous stretch of road

The NZTA has today announced the speed limit will drop from 100 kilometres an hour to 80 on State Highway 58, between State Highway 2 and the Pauatahanui roundabout.

The new limit will come into effect on Saturday next week.

Spokesman Mark Owen says in the past 10 years, four people have died and 68 people have been injured on the road, in almost 200 crashes.

He says the slower speed will only add an extra minute to the travel time through this section of road.
