It's being dubbed as a way to disrupt Wellington's housing market

It's being dubbed as a way to disrupt Wellington's housing market

The city council and The Wellington Company are joining forces to convert the Freemasons CBD office building into 35 apartments.

The council will lease them to essential workers in the city struggling to find a home, at 400 to 700 dollars a week.

Councillor Brian Dawson, who holds the housing portfolio, says it's a move to help the crisis.

He says people who work in the city can't afford to live in the city and that's a problem.
