Trailing 18-6 shortly after halftime, the Panthers levelled the scores with 11 minutes to play.
Hopes of icing the fightback were dashed however when Chad Townsend nailed a field goal seven minutes from time.
Panthers coach Cameron Ciraldo is sad to bow out.
Cronulla will face the Melbourne Storm next week for a spot in the final.
