A 35-year permit is being sought to dump thousands of cubic metres of sludge, at a site just outside Auckland's Hauraki Gulf marine park
15 September 2018
Coastal Resources Limited wants permission to increase the amount of "slops" it can dump on the seafloor north of a Repanga, or Cuvier Island, Nature Reserve.
Although the material to be dumped is described as largely consisting of sand, gravel and clay, contaminants would also be present at some level.
Some 250 thousand cubic metres per year would be dumped just outside the 12 nautical mile zone.
It would come from spoil from Ports of Auckland and any stormwater or infrastructure work in the Super City.
It would also include muck from proposed marina works, including an America's Cup Village at Hobsonville Pt.
