Denise Van Outen cried for three days when she had to pull out of appearing in 'Chicago' due to a stress fracture in her heel

The 44-year-old actress had to postpone her appearance in the current West End production of the show after suffering the painful injury whilst doing uphill training to get in shape ahead of her debut as Velma Kelly on September 24

When she discovered what the injury was Denise admits she wept at home because she felt as though she had letdown all the people who had purchased tickets to see her on stage.

Appearing on the panel on 'Loose Women' on Monday (17.09.18), she said: "I was getting ready to go into 'Chicago' and I wanted to be super-fit, so during training I was running and I felt this shooting pain through my heel and at first I thought it was my Achilles tendon but I went to see an ankle specialist that day because I could just about walk on it and they did MRI scan and I've got a stress fracture right through the heel, so it's pretty bad. I had never felt it before, I think it's because I was doing uphill training, I was sprinting uphill and it's quite a common injury apparently for rock climbers. It's awful. I felt fantastic both mentally and physically, I was feeling on top form. I was devastated because it had just been announced that I was going into the show, and I'd done it 17 years ago and I was so looking forward to it. I knew people had bought tickets and you just feel awful and so responsible that people are coming to see you ... But I was devastated, I sat indoors and cried for three days."

Although she had to pull out of 'Chicago' due to her injury, Denise will still be playing Velma and she hopes it will be sooner rather than later.

The blonde beauty - who is in a relationship with Eddie Boxshall - said: "I will return to it, I've got a scan tomorrow, hopefully I can take the boot off soon and it's fixed ... I will be fine, there are worst things that can happen."
