    The Wellington Phoenix's second bid to bring an African star to the A-League club has fallen flat


    Former Inter Milan and Newcastle United striker Obafemi Martins has rejected an offer from the 'Nix of a marquee contract.

    Martins has decided to prioritise recovering from a long-term leg injury while still on the books of Chinese club Shanghai Shenhua.

    The blow comes after the Phoenix were unable to secure the signature of former Chelsea and Real Madrid midfielder Michael Essien.
