Police on Auckland's North Shore are investigating a tyre-slashing spree

Residents in Tiri Tiri Road in Birkdale woke on Wednesday morning to find nearly every car parked in the street had their tyres slashed.

Police say more than 20 vehicles had been damaged.

On a community Facebook page, residents say some of the damaged vehicles were parked in private driveways.

Authorities are carrying out forensic and scene examinations, and are appealing to local residents or businesses who may have CCTV footage of the attacks.

The damage is thought to total thousands of dollars.
