Judy McGirr has been sentenced for careless driving causing death in Christchurch District Court
The 62-year-old was driving home, when her car drifted across the centre line of Queen Elizabeth II (two) Drive in February
She collided with 24-year-old Tyrone Tiatoa's motorcycle..
Today his mother described him as a responsible, safe rider- who was killed on his way to a first date.
Judge Tom Gilbert described McGirr's level of careless as being quite significant.
He sentenced her to 120 hours of community work and ordered her to make an emotional harm payment of 10 thousand dollars to benefit the victim's seven-year-old daughter.
