21 September 2018
The man, who can't be named for legal reasons, appeared in the High Court in Christchurch today.
He has been charged with two counts of intentionally causing grievous bodily harm - after the incident in July.
Police were considering further charges after the baby died, but today announced the charges would not change.
A trial has been set down for November.
