The former world number one has carded a two-under par 68 second round to be seven-under overall.
He's the co-clubhouse leader alongside England's Justin Rose, who's managed a three-under round.
Woods says he had to dig deep.
He says it's a tough course where you have to worry about making pars and grinding away.
FedEx Cup leader Bryson DeChambeau is tied for 27th at six-over, after a five-over round.
