Heavy rain and snow are expected in Southland, Otago and Canterbury over the next few days.
NZTA Coastal Otago manager Nick Rodger says there's widespread rain across the region, but they're starting to see snow in the high country.
He says they doubt much snow will accumulate on the roads, but visibility and stopping distances could be an issue on State Highways 85, 87, and 8.
Rodger says the forecast says the afternoon will bring heavy rain to lower levels - and snow down to 300 metres.
