National is accusing Winston Peters of being misleading
National is accusing Winston Peters of being misleading, over why he was at a celebration when Wally Haumaha was made Assistant Police Commissioner
24 September 2018
The party's Police spokesperson Chris Bishop says Peters told Parliament he was invited to Waiteti Marae by the National-led Government and Police National Headquarters.
But Police documents show this isn't true - and Bishop says the event was organised by the marae that Haumaha chairs.
Peters was asked today whether he can remember who specifically invited him.
He says he can't, because he's been to thousands of events in a 50-year-career as a politician, lawyer, student - and as someone in the Maori world.
