The competition holds a grade two status internationally, which as organiser Laurie Jury explains, holds a lot of value for up and coming sailors.
He says it holds a lot of world ranking points, which sailors need to get invited to the high paying regatta's around the world.
Team New Zealand's Josh Junior and Chris Steele who races professionally in the USA the highest profile competitors.
