The Government's being accused of listening to accountants ... before caring for children

Finance minister Grant Robertson syas the Government's 5.5 billion dollar surplus is needed for the pending global recession.
He says the Government hasn't got spare money to use to solve its pay disputes with teachers.
But Lynda Stuart from primary teachers' union NZEI says it has enough to address the teaching shortage.
She says not having enough teachers in front of children will have long-term effects.
