Nevertheless, international supermarket chains which have expanded into Australia, might not be far off getting a foothold in our market.
First Retail Group Managing Director Chris Wilkinson says Australia's supermarket prices are a lot lower than ours because there's more competition, including German chain Aldi .
He says our supermarkets put a lot of effort into keeping their dominance here.
But that might change soon, as global companies knock on our door.
Wilkinson says a lot of suburbs are undergoing a lot of regeneration - those will be the attractive prospects.
