A man's been charged with murder after a street fight in Lower Hutt four weeks ago

29-year-old Faapaia Fonoilaepa died from a single stab wound following the assault on September 14.

A 50-year-old man appeared by audio visual link in the Hutt Valley District Court today, charged with murder by stabbing or cutting.

He was arrested in Hastings five days after the death, but originally only charged with possession of a firearm and knife.

He has interim name suppression and will next appear later this month at the High Court in Wellington.
