Severe weather could throw a spanner in the travel plans of many over the weekend

Severe weather could throw a spanner in the travel plans of many over the weekend

Heavy snow's expected in parts of Canterbury and Marlborough today.

It's expected to challenge travellers, and could bring down trees and powerlines.

Snow could also get heavy on mountain roads and passes on both islands.

MetService forecaster Steven Glassie says it's going to be a wet and windy day for almost everyone else.

He says strong winds will develop through Wellington and coastal Marlborough this morning.

That will extend to Taranaki later today.
