The Government's being urged to look at regulatory changes to enable manufacturers to compete on a level playing field

The Wood Processors and Manufacturers Association says subsidies in other countries have seen the price of logs artificially inflated.

Spokesman Jon Tanner says as a result, raw logs are shipped overseas rather than being processed here.

He says this is where the Government needs to look at its taxation regime, like corporation tax and accelerated depreciation for machinery used in the industry.

Tanner says there's a number of tools at the Government's disposal right now, that would make it easier for New Zealand manufacturing to compete internationally.
