Ko sits two strokes behind England's Charley Hull and American Danielle Kang, after carding a four under par 68 in the third round.
It could have gone better for the Kiwi, after missing short birdie putts on the 15th, 17th and 18th greens.
In Kuala Lumpur Danny Lee is in a tie for 50th, 14 shots off the lead at the latest PGA event, while Ryan Fox missed the cut at the European Tour's British Masters.
