    A notoriously dangerous road is being closed to protect holiday makers fleeing the capital this long weekend


    The NZTA has announced it will close Paekakariki Hill Road this Friday afternoon.

    It says extra traffic using the road at this time are at a higher risk of accidents.

    NZTA says the risk comes from both the steep, winding road and merging with holiday traffic on State Highway 1.

    The closure will be from midday until 9 o'clock that night.

    The road will be closed at the intersection between Paekakariki Hill and Grays Roads and at the intersection with State Highway 1.
