    A Southland strike - over safety and staffing


    Five of the six anaesthetic technicians at Southland Hospital will strike for 24 hours tomorrow, with three primary claims.

    They are asking to have one new trainee each year at Southland hospital, nine full-time equivalent staff on the roster - to allow for adequate sleep after on-call and call-back duties - and funding for professional development.

    Dr Deborah Powell says its about ensuring safe healthcare for Southlanders.
