Two women have been injured, one seriously after a two-car crash south of Dunedin today

The Otago Daily Times reports police were called to the scene near Waihola shortly before three this afternoon.

A St John spokesperson confirmed confirmed a 57-year-old had sustained serious injuries and was airlifted to Dunedin Hospital.

The other woman sustained moderate injuries.

It is understood the women were in separate cars and both were trapped for a time after the crash.
