    Parts of the country are being hit by wild weather with warnings in place for the South Island and lower North Island


    MetService says severe northwest gales are affecting the Canterbury High Country, Marlborough,Wellington and the Wairarapa.

    Heavy rain is forecast in the Tararua Range, Buller, Canterbury and Otago Headwaters, and Fiordland with some places tipped to get as much as 200 millimetres.
