24 year old Tyler Croll-Davis had been drinking at his Rakaia Gorge home in Mid Canterbury in September last year with his friend David Muir, when he decided to drive.
He lost control on the Methven Highway and crashed into a concrete fencepost - killing David Muir.
Croll Davis initally denied being the driver but today in the Christchurch District Court he pleaded guilty to a charge of driving with excess alcohol causing death, and three charges of driving while disqualified.
He will be sentenced in December.
