The man accused of breaking a Wellington sculpture by climbing and swinging off it has appeared in court

The man accused of breaking a Wellington sculpture by climbing and swinging off it has appeared in court

Hunter Macdonald made his first appearance at the Wellington District Court.

The 28-year-old is charged with one count of wilful damage but didn't enter a plea today.

He's been remanded on bail to reappear later this month when he will have to enter a plea.

His defence lawyer told the court there was still a dispute over the cost of the repair.

Macdonald is accused of breaking the Len Lye Water Whirler sculpture on Wellington's waterfront last month.

The Len Lye Foundation has estimated the repair cost at 50-thousand dollars.
