The country's top judge is likely to be leaving the Supreme Court next year with a three million dollar retirement bundle

That's if Dame Sian Elias has taken full advantage of a generous scheme.
Judges can contribute up to five percent of their salary to their superannuation...with each dollar matched by seven dollars fifty in public contributions.
The Herald on Sunday reports it could be worth more than 3.2 million dollars to Dame Sian.
The Remuneration Authority says that contribution is similar in other countries, and to make judges are above income pressures - during and after their time on the bench.
Justice Minister Andrew Little acknowledges the scheme is very generous, but says it would be inappropriate to comment on any specific case.
