They say they didn't call off the strike because the venues for union meetings were already booked

The primary teachers' union has offered the explanation this afternoon, when asked why the pay offer it received on Thursday wasn't enough to avert this week's action.
Principals and teachers will be rallying on more than 100 street corners in Auckland at 7.30 tomorrow morning, and having mass meetings to consider the current situation later in the morning.
Other regions will follow through the week.
The NZEI's teacher lead negotiator Liam Rutherford says the Government's offer came through really late in the piece.
He says to that extent they didn't consider calling off the strikes, as they had venues booked.
Liam Rutherford says they have been really flexible, but when you already have so many meeting venues booked, a half day to consider an offer is not enough.
