Dame Silvia Cartwright will lead the public inquiry into EQC
13 November 2018
Greater Christchurch Regeneration minister Megan Woods has announced the former Governor-General and High Court judge will be chairing the Independent Inquiry into EQC's handling of the Canterbury earthquakes.
She says Dame Silvia has enormous mana and experience with public enquiries.
Dame Silvia led the famous 1980s Cartwright Inquiry into Auckland National Women's Hospital - and served on the Cambodian War Crimes Tribunal.
Woods has also released the Inquiry's terms of reference - emphasising it won't have a role in considering past insurance settlements or current claims.
The Inquiry is to report back by the end of June 2019.
