Major fines have been handed down to two central North Island businesses, found guilty of pollution

Waiotahi Contractors have been more than 88-thousand dollars for allowing contaminated stormwater to enter Tauranga's Kaitemako Stream.
Soil from an earthworks site entered the river in February last year.
H & S Chisholm Farms Limited has been find more than 57-thousand dollars, for two discharges of dairy effluent from its South Waikato farm in winter last year.
At sentencing, Judge Melanie Harland said Waikato dairy farmers have had ample opportunities to understand the rules.
