Having led 58-51 at halftime, they've been outscored by 14 in the final two quarters to lose 108-101 to Melbourne United in Invercargill.
Assistant coach Judd Flavell says they struggled to remain competitive down the stretch.
The Breakers face the Kings in Sydney on Sunday.
