About 5-thousand people in the Far North are facing a day without power

From 8 o'clock power company Top Energy is switching off the network around Kaitaia for maintenance.
Some businesses say they'll have to close for the day, and farmers are concerned stock will get out through electric fences which can't be energised.
Houhora beef farmer Jeremy White says he understands the work has to be done - but it creates a lot of problems.
He says lines companies in Auckland would never get away with shutting the power off for nine hours.
