Canterbury's Cup and Show week is being celebrated by the business community for bringing business and rural sectors together.

New Zealand Cup and Show Week wrapped up over the weekend - after bringing thousands into Christchurch for the week-long celebration of racing and agriculture.

Canterbury Chamber of Commerce chief executive Leeann Watson says city businesses really rely on the rural sector.

Motorists are being warned to take extra care as snow falls across the South Island.

MetService has issued snowfall warnings for high points across the country.

NZTA Senior Travel Information advisor Janine Porter says there's snow on State Highway 8 between Omarama and Tarras, and State Highway 94 between Te Anau and Milford.

For most of the passes, the snow fall warnings are in place until tomorrow night.
